What we’re about.

PIVIT Lifestyle is a play on the word pivot which means to move, to change direction, to turn or rotate.  We loved the word for its simple meaning, so we thought this was a great name for us.  We wanted to talk about this time in our lives, as women in our early 50s, who have to pivot and change as we enter into a new phase of our lives - less as caregivers to our children and more of a reconnection to who we were before we were wives and mothers.

When we launched earlier this year in 2020, we were focused on wellness - taking care of ourselves mentally and physically.  We wanted to share with our friends how to do that through eating well, taking care of our skin, exercising daily, and enjoying everything city life has to offer.

I don’t think we could ever have imagined how different our lives would be today.  In March of 2020, all of our lives stood still.  COVID-19 invaded New York City. We both live in Manhattan and handling the unknown and rapidly changing landscape was overwhelming. The ability to pivot took on a whole new meaning.

I have never been more grateful to have a summer home outside of the city where I could hunker down and regroup. I became a real mama bear wanting to keep my family safe and fielding all the other new realities; how was my son going to handle virtual learning? what about his social interaction? how were my husband and I going to navigate this? Getting my son acclimated to a new schedule was my first pivot. Once he was settled, I was able to come up for air and reflect. Wow, we’ve all had our life upended this year. Suddenly comforts I used to take for granted became a true touchstone for me. Over many late-night conversations with Suzanne, (after all, girlfriends are a touchstone too), this became so apparent; we are all still women and we want to hold on to a piece of who we are no matter what is going on around us.

My husband and I made the decision to uproot our family and head to Florida to help my parents as COVID-19 spread through our country and our lives. Now pivoting took on a deeper meaning as we worried about the immediate and long-term effects of Covid-19, our general safety, the isolation from friends, and grappling with what is the new normal. There was and is so much uncertainty. At times my conversations with Cindy, and looking at what routines we are holding onto to feel like ourselves, felt like a life-line. And that is when we realized PIVIT Lifestyle should be more than a wellness pursuit – it should be like having a dialog with a much-needed friend.

We were used to seeing each other weekly, spending time talking about new beauty and wellness ideas over weekly Mahjong games, exploring and identifying health and beauty products, attending seminars and exercise classes, sharing new restaurants and theater engagements, conversing in a way that we only do with girlfriends, and overall feeling connected to our community in NYC.

We then found ourselves far apart from each other and what we knew our lives to be and all of those comforts that we realized we took so for granted. That is how PIVIT Lifestyle was born; virtual chat rooms fell short and we needed to connect to each other and find another way to come together to share our thoughts and embrace who we are.

PIVIT Lifestyle was created as a virtual place where we can share what makes us tick, what brings us comfort – and it is no longer about getting back to who we once were. It is about embracing who we are now.

PIVIT Lifestyle is a place we can come where it feels good to curl up on the sofa, embrace our thoughts, needs, whims and desires, take a moment for ourselves, and deliciously dive in.
